Upper Kootenay River
Start location: Radium Hot Springs (Nipika)
Ride Type: One Way
Date Ridden: July 2022
Distance: 122 km
Elevation: 1,445 m
Surface: Gravel
Why do this ride: Kootenay scenery, one of BC's mighty rivers.
Difficulty: Mostly a downriver downhill ride but with a fair bit of up and down. We missed some turns in the final stretch (Columbia Lake area) and ended up taking much harder MTB type trails than needed (see Canal Flats: Columbia Lake page for easier options).
Other notes: This route ends at Fairmont Hotsprings, it would be turned into a loop riding back on quieter roads east of highway back to Radium (we did those roads as part of a different road ride that is not listed on these pages). We did some exploration of easier MTB trails in Nipika resort area prior to starting ride proper (those are in GPX file).
